New England Wetmix (Wetland Seed Mix) view pictures

Wetmix spec sheet

The New England Wetmix (wetland seed mix) contains a wide variety of native seeds which are suitable for most wetland restoration sites that are not permanently inundated. All species are best suited to moist disturbed ground as found in most wet meadows, scrub shrub, or forested wetland restoration areas. This mix is well suited for detention basin borders, and the bottom of detention basins not generally under standing water. The seeds will not germinate under inundated conditions. If planted during the fall months, the seed mix will germinate the following spring. During the first season of growth, several species will produce seeds, while other species will produce seeds after the second growing season. Not all species will grow in all wetland situations. This mix is composed of the wetland species most likely to grow in created/restored wetlands and should produce more than 75% ground cover in two full growing seasons.

Seeding: Always apply on clean bare soil. The mix may be applied by hydro-seeding, by mechanical spreader, or on small sites it can be spread by hand. Lightly rake, or roll to ensure proper soil-seed contact. Best results are obtained with a Spring seeding. Late Spring and Summer seeding will benefit with a light mulching of clean weed-free straw to conserve moisture. If conditions are drier than usual, watering may be required. Late Fall and Winter dormant seeding require an increase in the seeding rate.Seeding can take place on frozen soil, as the freezing, thawing weather of late fall and late winter will work the seed into the soil. Fertilization is not recommended. Preparation of a clean weed free soil surface is necessary for optimal results.

Note: Seeds will not germinate under inundated conditions. Not all species will grow in all wetland situations.

Application Rate: 1 LB/2500 SQ. FT. (18 LBS/ACRE as a wet meadow seeding)

Price: $125.00/LB**

New England Erosion Control/Restoration Mix for Detention Basins and Moist Sites  view pictures

NEEC Moist spec sheet

The New England Erosion Control/Restoration Mix for Detention Basins and Moist Sites contains a selection of native grasses and wildflowers designed to colonize recently disturbed sites where quick growth of vegetation is desired to stabilize the soil surface. It is an excellent seed mix for ecologically appropriate restorations on moist sites that require quick stabilization as well as long-term establishment of native vegetation. This mix is particularly appropriate for detention basis that do not normally hold standing water. Some plants in this mix can tolerate infrequent inundation, but not constant flooding.

Seeding: Always apply on clean bare soil. The mix may be applied by hydro-seeding, by mechanical spreader, or on small sites it can be spread by hand. Lightly rake, or roll to ensure proper soil-seed contact. Best results are obtained with a Spring or early Fall seeding. Late Spring and Summer seeding will benefit with a light mulching of clean weed-free straw to conserve moisture. If conditions are drier than usual, watering may be required. Late Fall and Winter dormant seeding require and increase in the seeding rate. Fertilization is not recommended. Preparation of a clean weed free soils surface is necessary for optimal results.

New England Erosion Control/Restoration Mix for Dry Sites

NEEC Dry spec sheet

The New England Erosion Control/Restoration Mix for dry sites provides an appropriate selection of native and non-native grasses to ensure that dry, recently disturbed sites will be quickly revegetated and the soil surface stabilized. It is an appropriate seed mix for road cuts, pipelines, detention basin side slopes, and areas requiring temporary cover during the ecological restoration process.

Seeding: The mix may be applied by hydro seeding, by mechanical spreader, or on small sites it may be spread by hand. When applying on bare soil, rake the soil to create grooves, apply seed, then lightly rake over. This mix may be applied at any time of the year. A light mulching of weed free straw to conserve moisture and to aid in slope stabilization and fertilization with 10-10-10 is recommended.

New England Warm Season Grass Mix

Warm Grass spec sheet

The New England Native Warm Season Grass Mix contains a broad spectrum of native warm season grasses to ensure that a variety of the species will survive in the sandy and droughty conditions typically found along roadsides, gravel mine reclamation areas, and other low-fertility, well-drained soil conditions. This mix is somewhat slow to germinate and establish during the first year of planting, but it will produce good cover by the end of the second growing season and establish long-living native stands. Cool season rye grass and fescue have been added as a “starter” seed for erosion control. This mix has excellent heat and drought tolerance, and grows well in well-drained soils. Warm season grasses provide excellent year-round cover and food for wildlife, particularly as winter cover for small animals.

Seeding: This mix may be applied by hydro seeding on slopes, by mechanical spreader, or on small sites it may be spread by hand. In New England, the best results are obtained with a mid-late Spring seeding.

Application Rate: 23 LBS/ACRE (1900 SQ. FT./LB)

New England Semi Shade Grass and Forb Mix

Semi Shade spec sheet

The New England Semi Shade Grass and Forb Mix contains native grasses and forbs that will do well on sites that receive only a few hours of direct sunlight each day. Not recommended for wet or moist sites.

Seeding: Apply on clean bare soil. This mix may be applied by hydro seeding, by mechanical spreader, or on small sites it may be spread by hand. Lightly rake, or roll to ensure proper soil-seed contact. Best results are obtained with a Spring seeding. Late Spring and Summer seeding will benefit with a light mulching of weed-free straw to conserve moisture. If conditions are drier than usual, watering may be required. Late Fall and Winter dormant seeding require an increase in the seeding rate. Fertilization is not required unless the soils are particularly infertile. Preparation of a clean weed free soil surface is necessary for optimal results.

New England Roadside Matrix Mixes

The New England Roadside Matrix Mixes are designed for use along roads and highways. These mixes are unusual in that they blend native grasses, wildflowers and shrubs together in a native matrix seed mix. In areas that receive frequent mowing, such as those closest to the roadway shoulder, the warm season grasses will dominate. In areas farther from the road that may be mown only once each year, or in hard to mow areas such as around sign posts, the wildflower component will become dominant. Along cuts and side slopes that may never be mown, the shrub component will add diversity, beauty, and wildlife habitat to the roadside plantings. These are  particularly appropriate seed mixes for roadsides, industrial sites, or cut and fill slopes.

Seeding: These mixes may be applied by hydro seeding or by mechanical spreader. When applying on bare soil, rake the soil to create a slightly rough surface, apply seed, then gently rake over. Best results are obtained with a Spring or Summer seeding. Summer seeding will be successful with a light mulching of weed free straw to conserve moisture. These mixes are  not well suited to late Fall or Winter dormant seeding.
